The .edu address uses smtp.comcast.net as the outgoing mail server, but recently it has been saying "connection to smtp.comcast.net timed out". It has win7 so theres no safe mode. (no, that doesn't work. Theres no safe mode.). When it turns on theres the boot screen, then theres just a flashing underscore in the top right corner of the monitor. What can I do to get rid of the virus? I have a boot disc with ubuntu on it, if thats useful. Is there an antivirus program for that works with ubuntu but will be able to clean viruses targeted at windows?I tried the F8 thing like three times. SAFE MODE DOESNT WORK.I've also tried a system restore, which did nothing.

Then it would say "push a key to reboot."I did this quite a few times, same thing. I unplugged it, same thing. ok i have a somewhat dumb question LOL...i was wondering what would be better for long term storage for music/documents/pictures?CD/DVD-R or External HDD?i understand that going with the HDD would be better cause you can add/remove files whenever, lots of storage space but what worries me is..what if the device craps out? you lose all that data, especially if you dont have a back up deviceCD/DVD-R does your files get affected in someway if they are kept on there for a long time? now i also understand the risk with CD'S and that is if they get scratched or Damaged then your screwed but im not to worried about that, because i take good care of my cd's haha, i have cd's from 8 years ago and they only i have 1-2 scratches on them :D....which will be the better/safer route? dumb question and to most i guess the answer would be external HDD but i still want some opinions, THX for looking
